One man was arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in Modesto that claimed the life of a former Escalon resident, Donnie Boatman.
On Wednesday, July 2 at 6:42 p.m., Stanislaus County sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of a shooting in the 600 block of Leon Avenue in Modesto. Upon arrival, Donnie Boatman, 38, of Modesto was discovered suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel transported Boatman to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased despite lifesaving efforts by medical staff.
Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit responded to the scene and took over the investigation. The investigators were provided with initial leads, including a vehicle reported to be fleeing from the scene. This, along with additional information, led to identifying a 34-year-old male suspect. On July 3, Dontae Galindo was arrested approximately one mile from the original crime scene within the city of Modesto.
Galindo was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail on charges of murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm. His criminal history, authorities said, includes prior arrests for attempted murder, drug possession and manufacturing, obstructing a peace officer, and other offenses. He remains in jail without bail pending further court action.
Boatman grew up in Escalon but moved to Modesto several years ago.
The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident. Anyone with information regarding this case is encouraged to contact Detective Summerton at 209-525-7117 or make an anonymous tip by calling Stanislaus Area Crime Stoppers at 866-602-7463.
