Area assemblyman Heath Flora recently announced that two out of his three bills passed out of the Legislature right before the end of session have been signed into law by the Governor. One of those bills was vetoed.
“These final three bills were the ones that took the longest to get passed. That being said, they all still had major bipartisan support in the Legislature and we are happy to see most of them get signed into law,” said Assemblyman Flora. “The big one is AB 876, which will increase access to healthcare in the Central Valley and reduce service disruptions for thousands of residents. This is a bill that was viewed as nearly impossible up in Sacramento, but which makes complete sense to anyone who lives and works in the valley and has experienced healthcare disruptions.”
The following are the Flora bills signed or vetoed by the governor after the Legislature adjourned for the Fall/Winter season.
AB 876 (SIGNED) – Protects access to anesthesia care by clarifying the role of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists in California’s health system, especially in underserved and rural communities.
AB 509 (SIGNED) – Encourages the use of advanced, state-approved age-verification technology to help prevent underage alcohol sales, while protecting responsible businesses.
AB 1309 (VETOED) – Moves California closer to equal pay for state firefighters by aligning Cal Fire compensation with local fire departments through the collective bargaining process.
In addition to these measures, Assemblyman Flora had other bills that were signed into law while the Legislature was still in session earlier in the year.
AB 533 (SIGNED) – Streamlines the process for hospital districts to complete essential projects, helping them maintain access to critical federal funding and ensuring rural and underserved communities continue to receive the care they need.
ACR 21 (SIGNED) – A section of Highway 99 has also been designated as the Officer Harminder Grewal Memorial Highway, honoring the Galt police officer who tragically lost his life while responding to the Caldor Fire. This designation serves as a lasting tribute to Officer Grewal’s bravery and sacrifice.
“I’m especially proud of the bills we were able to get passed and signed this year,” Flora added. “While it’s always disappointing to see a good bill get vetoed, that doesn’t mean it’s over. We look forward to continuing the fight.”
