Veterans Day is less than two weeks away, and members of the Escalon American Legion Post 263 are putting the final call out for entries for the annual Veterans Day parade downtown.
Those hoping to take part are asked to return their parade application by Friday, Oct. 31. They can be mailed to the American Legion Post 263, ATTN: Veterans Day Parade, P.O. Box 596, Escalon, CA 95320. Those with questions can also contact Parade Coordinator Barbara Willis at 209-838-6471 for more information.
The line up will begin at 9 a.m. for the parade; entry numbers can be picked up at registration in front of the post office on Coley Avenue that day. The parade begins at 10:30 a.m. and being honored this year as the Grand Marshal is Post Commander Mike Christensen.
The parade steps off along Coley Avenue, heads toward First Street, then turns from there on to Main Street.
After the parade, all are encouraged to attend a Memorial Ceremony hosted at the Escalon Community Center Memorial Wall, 1055 Escalon Ave., with that event scheduled for an 11:30 a.m. start. The program typically includes special music, a guest speaker, laying of memorial wreaths and a 21-gun salute.
That is followed by a barbecued chicken lunch, served from noon to 3 p.m., with dine in and take out options.
