Members of the Escalon FFA experienced success at the annual Ag Day presentation and numerous field-day competitions during March.
On Thursday, March 5, Escalon FFA hosted its annual Ag Day for all eighth graders from El Portal and Valley Home schools. This event allows middle schoolers to learn about FFA and the many opportunities it offers through classes, teams, and leadership experiences. It also motivates students to learn about the agricultural industry as a whole through dynamic presentations from numerous professionals representing fields such as plant science, animal science, marketing, mechanics, and even college representatives. These mentors, as well as all the high school students, helped ensure this would be a great experience for everyone involved as the eighth graders prepare to enter EHS. Ag Day showcased how Escalon FFA advances its goal of providing agricultural education to a growing number of students.
In addition to hosting this event, Escalon FFA’s current members have had many opportunities to showcase their skills at various field days as part of their career development teams. At the UC Davis and Gridley field days, many teams participated and placed, including the Agronomy (1st place), Food Science (4th place), Vegetable Crop Judging (4th place), Agricultural Mechanics, and Livestock Judging teams. This performance was repeated, most recently, at the Modesto Junior College field day, where talented students and teams competed, including Agronomy (1st place), Vegetable Crop Judging (4th place), Ag Pest Control (4th place), Agricultural Mechanics, and Livestock Judging. Not only did the teams place, but many individuals were also recognized for their excellent performance at these events. As the field day season progresses, Escalon FFA students continue to demonstrate their impressive skills and dedication by showcasing their knowledge across a wide variety of agricultural topics. We all look forward to seeing how our members continue to inspire, and we wish the career development teams and individual students good luck in the upcoming state competitions at Fresno, Cal Poly, and Ontario.
