The San Joaquin County Office of Education (SJCOE) was joined by community leaders on Friday, Oct. 3, to celebrate the project to build the new headquarters of CodeStack, relocating the software development department and its CodeStack Academy coding school to Downtown Stockton.

The restoration ceremony marked the recent beginning of the project to transform and expand the existing building at 201 N. California St., downtown, to open CodeStack Academy on the ground floor and include office space to house the software developers and other team members providing services to schools, districts, and other agencies in California and beyond.

“Downtown Stockton is the ideal home for CodeStack and CodeStack Academy, which is training the next generation of software engineers,” said Dr. Troy Brown, San Joaquin County Superintendent of Schools. “We are excited to be part of the growth in the vibrant heart of Stockton.”

The project to renovate the three-story building will increase useable space from approximately 14,000 to 30,000 square feet. Three of the four walls will be preserved, including the north facade containing a distinctive mural that has been part of the downtown landscape since 2018.

CodeStack is a software engineering department within the SJCOE that develops web, mobile, and software applications for schools and public agencies. The department has developed systems like EDJOIN, SEIS, Beyond SST, the California School Dashboard, and dozens more. It provides services to more than 1,100 school districts, 700 private and charter schools, and all 58 county offices of education in California.

The restoration ceremony was also streamed live to the Adventist Health Arena, where hundreds of educators from the state came to attend CodeStack’s annual CSC Live Conference.

The San Joaquin County Office of Education (SJCOE) provides educational leadership, resources, and services to support schools throughout the county. For more information, visit www.sjcoe.org.
