Officials with the ASTRO Foundation have announced the grand reopening of its new adoption center at 20 S. Stearns Road in Oakdale, set for Sunday, Dec. 7. Securing this facility earlier this year was a major milestone for the foundation and the animals it serves, providing a safe, welcoming space where at-risk cats and dogs can receive compassionate care and find loving homes.

While the year has brought challenges, including a devastating car crash through the adoption center’s community cat room, the dedication of ASTRO’s team has been unwavering. Through these obstacles, the foundation has provided care for more animals than ever before in 2025, demonstrating the incredible resilience, expertise, and heart of its staff, volunteers and supporters.

“After months of recovery and hard work, we’re thrilled to reopen our doors and share this incredible space with our community,” said Executive Director, Megan Scoullar. “This reopening is a celebration of the lifesaving work our team does every day, the pets whose lives we’ve touched, and the incredible support of our donors and volunteers who make it all possible. We can’t wait to welcome everyone to meet the animals and see the impact of our work firsthand.”

The grand reopening event on Sunday, Dec. 7 will run from noon to 5 p.m. and will feature tours of the facility, opportunities to meet adoptable pets, photos with Santa, raffle prizes, ways to support the foundation and more.

Visitors are encouraged to bring in-kind donations from the ASTRO Foundation’s Wishlist to place under the Christmas tree, fill the stockings of rescue pets, or support the foundation through sponsorship opportunities during the event. Guests can also learn how to join the capital campaign that made the purchase of the new facility possible.

Founded in 2012, the ASTRO Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) animal welfare organization that has rescued more than 10,000 animals from the Central Valley communities of Oakdale, Riverbank, and Escalon. Through the dedication of volunteers, foster families, and veterinary partners, ASTRO rescues hundreds of cats and dogs each year, placing them in loving homes where they can thrive. Beyond adoption, the foundation addresses the root causes of animal homelessness through programs such as its Community Cat Program, which reduces feline overpopulation through trap-neuter-return (TNR) services, and the Happy Pets Food Pantry, which helps families in crisis care for their animals by providing food and supplies— keeping beloved pets out of shelters and in the homes of the people who love them.
