Annual Autumn Cruise is fast approaching
Lions

Just a little over a week away, the 29th annual Escalon Lions Club Autumn Cruise is on the calendar for Saturday, Sept. 13.

The show typically brings in a couple hundred entries – and hundreds of classic car enthusiasts – to enjoy the show, music, food and more.

The Autumn Cruise is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in and around the city’s Main Street Park on Sept. 13. Those coming in for the day are encouraged to get breakfast, which will be put on by the Escalon American Legion, from 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at a cost of $10; the Legion Post is at 1531 Second St., Escalon.

Over 50 separate awards will be presented as part of the Cruise, there will be a vendor show, raffles and more, as well as onsite lunch available from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

For more information about the show or to register, visit Escalon Lions on Facebook or email ELCAutumnCruise@gmail.com.

Prior to the car show, however, the Escalon Lions will be hosting a community barbecue, being put on at the pavilion adjacent to the Escalon Community Center on Thursday, Sept. 4.

The Lions Club helped refurbish the pavilion and President Jeremy Engle said they want to not only let people know what the club does in the community but are also hoping to spark some interest among potential new members.

Hours for the event will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and it is free to the community, with a menu of hot dogs and hamburgers, side dishes, soda and water.

The Sept. 4 barbecue will also include presentation of President’s Awards for those members who have made outstanding contributions during the year and also recognition for some chosen for the Lifetime Achievement-Melvin Jones award.

Engle said the Lions Club provides a variety of scholarships and funding for community projects and supports a number of initiatives throughout the year. He is hoping that local residents will join them on Sept. 4 to learn more about the organization.
