For the second year, the Escalon American Legion Post 263 is putting on a crab feed, open to the community. Date for this year’s event is Saturday, March 21 and the dinner will be served at the Legion Post, 1531 Second St., Escalon.

“Last year it did wonderful, we sold out,” noted Post member and crab feed coordinator Fallon Nunes.

The doors for this event will open at 5 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6 p.m.

Menu for the evening is cold crab, cold shrimp, pasta, salad and dinner rolls. Tickets are $80 per person; there will also be door prizes and raffles.

Nunes said ticket sales have been somewhat slower this year but they are hoping to see the sales pick up within the next week or so.

It is a fundraiser, she added.

“Any money that we get, we put it all back in to the community,” Nunes explained. “Whether that is by sponsoring youth sports teams, sending students to Boys and Girls State, helping out our local veterans and their families.”

The local Gustafson-Thompson Post members are extremely active in the community, presenting the colors at multiple events, assisting with parades, helping co-sponsor the annual toy drive for local youngsters at Christmas, and more.

Nunes said the March crab feed event is being put on in place of the community dinner at the Legion Post this month; the third Saturday dinner will resume in April with a potluck. Other monthly community dinners throughout the year include a fish fry, soups and stews night, Mexican night and the popular chili cook off.
