West Nile Mosquitoes Found In Escalon

One of the latest groups of collected mosquitoes testing positive for the West Nile Virus was found in Escalon. That, according to the update bulletin issued weekly by the San Joaquin County West Nile Virus Task Force.

"There are four groups of collected mosquitoes testing positive for the West Nile virus since the last report," noted San Joaquin County Mosquito and Vector Control District Public Information Officer Aaron Devencenzi.

The additional WNV mosquitoes were found in Lodi and Manteca in addition to Escalon.

"Total WNV positive collected groups for 2007 are 141," added Devencenzi.

Three additional dead birds have also tested positive for West Nile in the last week, in Stockton, Manteca and Ripon, bringing to 33 the number of dead birds testing positive for the virus this year. Nine new positive cases were reported in sentinel chickens in flocks around the county, raising that total for this year to 19.
