Verna Ruth Van Till, 78, of Ripon died Saturday, Aug. 4 at Doctors Hospital, Modesto.

Mrs. Van Till was born in Modesto and grew up in Salida. She was a resident of Ripon for 57 years.

After graduating from Modesto High School she attended Modesto Jr. College and U.C. Santa Barbara where she studied Home Economics.

She was a homemaker who loved her Lord and Savior. She was an active member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Ripon. She and her husband were very active in the local 4-H club, supporting their children with their dairy projects. She was also a 4-H sewing and crafts leader for 15 years. For many years, she and her husband were very involved with the California Milk Advisory Board, the Dairy Princess program, and enjoyed traveling. They were founding co-owners of Hilmar Cheese Company. She was a very hospitable and giving person who loved to cook and entertain guests at her home. She loved classical music and the piano, and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by six children, Charlotte Van Till of Salida, Emily (Martin) Boer of Turlock, Clifford (Debbie) Van Till of Rayville, MO, Aletha Van Till of Salida, Mary Van Till of Salida, and Martha (Kevin) Lazette of Ripon; sister, Ellen (Cal) Hermansen of Sacramento; nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Jim Van Till.

Visitation was held Aug. 8 at Deegan Ripon Memorial Chapel. Graveside services were held Aug. 9 at Ripon Cemetery. Memorial services were held Aug. 9 at First Christian Reformed Church, Ripon.
