Triple Wins For Escalon Varsity Volleyball Squad In Preseason Play
It didn't matter that their matches were back to back to back ... Escalon's varsity volleyball girls put their collective skills together and came away with three victories in as many contests.

The girls were at Orestimba to start the week, playing Tuesday, Sept. 4. They needed four games to take the match, with final scores of 25-16, 18-25, 25-12, 25-15.

"Game one, we played really good but in game two, the girls let down their guard a little," said head coach Teresa Williamson. "Then they played good volleyball again for games three and four."

Kaitlyn Brayton had a solid outing for the varsity, with six aces and nine kills on the night. Vicki Costa added seven kills and had three blocks, with Katie Aprile notching 14 assists.

In a Wednesday, Sept. 5 game at home against Summerville, the Lady Cougars made quick work of the visiting Bears, winning 25-23, 25-15, 25-15.

"I think we had some home jitters in that first game," Williamson admitted of the tight game to open the match. "I do have a young team and Summerville knocked us out of the playoffs last year so I think that had a lot to do with it."

After getting past Summerville in that first game, though, Williamson said her players relaxed and didn't allow themselves to be intimidated by the visiting team anymore, rolling to the next two wins to take the match in a clean sweep.
