Schools Brace For Opening
With the new teacher orientation, freshman orientation and Cougar kick off out of the way, classes are set to resume in all Escalon Unified School District sites on Monday, Aug. 13.

Escalon High School, El Portal Middle School, Vista Continuation, Sierra View independent study, along with Van Allen, Farmington, Dent and Collegeville Elementary schools will all welcome back students from their summer vacation.

"We've been paving, re-roofing, we painted all of Van Allen," said School District Superintendent Dave Mantooth of refurbishing efforts during the summer months. "We have seven or eight new teachers coming in, we're also working on a new scoreboard for the football field at the high school."

Administrators at the schools remain the same except for El Portal Middle School, which has welcomed new principal, Wilson Nacario.

At Escalon High, Joel Johannsen returns as principal, with Kendra Helsley back at Dent, Bob Amato serving as principal of both Farmington and Collegeville sites and Dave Lattig leading Van Allen and Vista.

Mantooth said the new teachers have gone through their orientation, the administrative staff has had its annual retreat, and everybody is gearing up for the start of a new year.
