It was a full day of volleyball for all three Escalon squads, as they traveled to Beyer High School in Modesto on Saturday, Aug. 25.

There, the varsity, JV A and JV B teams faced off with host Beyer, Golden Valley and Sierra.

There were no scores or statistics kept, but each team got on the court for a 35-minute scrimmage against each of the other three teams.

Varsity girls played from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed by the JV A teams from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the JV B squads from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

"I thought we played very well," said Escalon varsity head coach Teresa Williamson. "We have a lot of good chemistry already. We do have a lot to work on defensively."

The scrimmage was the first time the girls have taken the court to play another team. Up until this point, they have only scrimmaged against each other in practice.

"All three were higher divisions," Williamson noted of the opponents in the Saturday scrimmage.

The girls will get in some more preseason action, playing at Orestimba on Sept. 4 and hosting Calaveras on Sept. 5 and Linden on Sept. 6. After the traditional preseason match with Oakdale on Sept. 10, the Lady Cougars start league play with a road game at Ripon on Sept. 12.

For the JV A team, under head coach Irene Laugero, the Saturday scrimmage was also a positive experience.
