Parade, Queens, Pageantry Planned For Homecoming
It's that time of year again ... Homecoming will be celebrated on Friday night, Oct. 5 at Escalon High School and festivities are going on all this week leading up to the special event.

Special theme days are featured during the week, with today, Wednesday, celebrated as 'Jungle Fever' day where students at the high school are encouraged to dress in camouflage. Thursday will be 'Get Your Colors On' with the various classes dressing in their class colors: freshmen yellow, sophomores white, juniors green and seniors black. There will also be a Thursday night rally, 8 p.m. on Oct. 4, with competition among the Homecoming Queen contestants based on a game show theme.

This year's floats are also based on game shows, according to organizers.

Friday will be the traditional Purple and Gold day for students to wear the school colors, while Monday was 'Lion Around' pajama day and Tuesday was 'The Mane Event' crazy hair day. Escalon's football team will play host to the Linden Lions in the Homecoming game, set for 7:30 p.m. Friday at Engel Field.

Homecoming Queen candidates this year are Chelsea Davis, Brittany Diniz, Staci Gentry, Julie Reid and Kristen Steves.

Davis is the daughter of Harry and Cindy Davis and has been involved in cheerleading and tennis at Escalon High. She serves as a Homecoming Commissioner and this year is senior class treasurer. She plans to attend Modesto Junior College.

Diniz, daughter of Joe and Annabel Diniz, also plans to go to MJC after graduation. She is the Associated Student Body secretary and also serves as FFA secretary.
