Helen S. Myers, 74, died Thursday, Sept. 13, at Orinda Convalescent Hospital after a long battle with Alzheimer 's disease.

Mrs. Myers was born and raised in Ottumwa, Iowa. Upon graduation from Iowa State University, she was accepted at UC Berkeley to complete her Dietetics Internship. It was there that she met her husband, Dick Myers.

The Myers family lived in Escalon for 45 years. After the death of her husband in 2003, she moved to Walnut Creek, CA and then later to Orinda Convalescent Hospital.

She was a Registered Dietitian for 50 years, worked at the University of the Pacific, Plymouth Square Nursing Home, hospitals in Jackson and Sonora, Bethany Home Convalescent Hospital in Ripon, and most recently, San Joaquin County Hospital.

She was very active in the Escalon PTA, especially the statewide Reflections contests. She was also an organist for the United Methodist Church for many years.

She was a beloved mother and grandmother; she will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her children, Ellen Myers of Stockton, Richard Myers of Walnut Creek, Janet Foster of Danville, Nancy Rashid of Davis; two sisters, Dorothy Swanson of Ottumwa, IA, Wretha Flohr of Mason City, IA; and her grandchildren, Jay, Julianna, Luke and Gavin.

Friends are invited to a graveside service at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 21 at Burwood Cemetery in Escalon.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances in her memory may be made to the Escalon Methodist Church. Cards may be sent to the family c/o Richard Myers, 3444 Freeman Road, Walnut Creek, CA 94595.
