Cougar Duo Figure In To Final Football Victory At UOP
The Escalon Cougar tandem of Jaremy Puthoff and Daniel Sawyer played an integral part in the North Squad's 16-12 victory in front of over 1,500 people in a remarkably manicured Stagg Stadium on the University of the Pacific campus in Stockton. The two were making their final appearance as high school players, taking part in the Lion's All Star Game on Saturday, July 21.

"It feels really good to finish out your last game in high school and come out with a win," Escalon's Puthoff said. "This is something you dream about. You dream about playing in this all-star game, and I got lucky enough to play in it, and it was amazing."

Puthoff made his presence felt throughout both halves of the all-star contest, constantly applying aggressive force on the defensive side of the ball. His defensive tenacity helped the North squad preserve its 7-0 lead with a key third down defensive stop late in the second quarter.

"My approach defensively is to basically go out there and try and hit as many people as I can," Puthoff said. "There was such great competition out here. I have never played with any caliber of talent like this."

Unlike the 30 or so all-stars roaming the South's sidelines, Escalon's representation was able to walk off the field as winners in their final high school athletic contest.
