Belly Dancers, Guitarists Slated At Market On Main
"Escalon Escapades" is the theme for the Thursday evening, July 26 Market on Main and will feature two acts new to the market's roster of weekly entertainment.

The Sierra Spiral Dancers, a belly dance troupe that holds weekly practices in Escalon, will take the stage at approximately 5:30 p.m. executing a variety of classic belly dance moves set to exotic music. In recent years belly dancing has evolved to include practitioners who benefit from its workout and fitness regime as well as the traditional spiritual component. Then, at 6:30 p.m., two students of classical guitarist Jessica Byrd will perform until the market closes.

Next week's Market on Main, on Aug. 2, will feature Escalon's first-ever Chili Cook-off competition between local restaurants and caterers. Market manager Amanda Swift said invitations have gone out to Escalon's chefs to bring pots of their "secret recipe" chili to the chamber tent next Thursday where market patrons will sample and cast their votes for the chef that creates best chili in Escalon. Also, any eatery or caterer not previously contacted may call Swift at 595-5236 for more information. Entries will only be accepted from Escalon establishments.

The Escalon Chamber of Commerce has scheduled activities around different themes each week in an effort to attract more people to the weekly downtown open-air market. Vendors are pleased with the foot traffic that has increased each week. Word has spread about the number of vendors set up as well as the added enhancement of entertainment at each Thursday's market, according to chamber officials.
